ALL OUT FOR COURT

MONDAY, NOVEMBER 16TH – PACK THE COURT TO CHALLENGE THE INJUNCTIONS
ORANGE COUNTY SUPERIOR COURT IN SANTA ANA

Tomorrow’s training will prepare us for community outreach as well as for media interviews and the press conference that will happen when the injunctions are heard in court on November 16th.

In communities throughout the state, gang injunctions have increased the use of aggressive policing impacting the entire community, including increased stops and frisks of youth/young adults on the street, increased searches in schools, raids of people’s homes, Probation, Parole and ICE checks, and the increased use of militarization including helicopters above the community.

COMMUNITY’S POWERFUL IMPACT ON THE PLACENTIA CITY COUNCIL LAST TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 3RD

There has been a dramatic increase in the use of gang injunctions in Orange County. Recently, 2 additional “injunction zones” were created targeting two neighborhoods in the city of Placentia – La Jolla and Placentia. Atwood is also seeing increased police suppression and residents fear that an injunction might be planned for that neighborhood as well.

At last Tuesday’s Placentia City Council meeting, over 50 people came out – mostly LIFE-LONG COMMUNITY RESIDENTS OF THE COMMUNITIES OF PLACENTIA AND LA JOLLA, pictured here outside Placentia City Hall. Through your incredible testimonies, we moved the City Council to thoroughly consider the injunctions and what they mean for both the people served, their families, and the larger community.

Along with leaders from Placentia and LaJolla, several organizations are working to stop the injunctions, including California Families to Abolish Solitary Confinement, Chicanos Unidos, Orange County ACLU, UC Irvine School of Law and the Youth Justice Coalition.
